Working here
Occasional openings for commercial door and hardware techs in Charlotte. This page is written to put off the wrong applicant, which saves everybody a week.
The job
What actually matters
- You can identify an assembly by looking at it and you know why it matters.
- You will stop when you find a rating label and think about clearances before you cut anything.
- You can explain a decision to a facilities manager in two sentences without jargon.
- You turn up when you said you would, and you call when you cannot.
- You are comfortable saying a job is outside our scope rather than having a go at it.
What will not work here
- Wanting to cover the whole metro. We work Charlotte and we are not changing that.
- Quoting a figure to a customer before anyone has seen the opening.
- Turning a closer down to make a complaint go away.
The work is commercial swinging openings inside one city. Storefront entries, hollow metal, wood flush, rated assemblies, panic hardware, closers and locks. It is not residential, it is not overhead doors, and it is not automatic operators.
It involves a lot of standing in a doorway with a level and a tape while somebody waits to use the door. It involves telling customers that the thing they asked for is the wrong fix, and being able to explain why without being smug about it. It involves reading a label on a hinge edge and changing what you were about to do. If none of that sounds appealing, it genuinely is not the job.
